Written Statement: This piece represents how different languages can still convey a same image today. The image depicts a blue sculpture of a nude woman surrounded with scaffolding and construction bars. The construction bars implies that miniature workers have already written text all over the woman’s body. There are three types of languages: English, Korean and Chinese. This reflects the languages I am able to speak, and all of those languages are extremely different. In the past, people around the world were not able to accept and understand others who spoke different languages, and the same word creates different forms and shapes for different language speakers. However, in the globalized world like today, different language speakers are accessible to different customs and culture. If a same description is told to different language speakers nowadays, the same image or form is likely to be created. This piece is based on my experience of speaking three languages in various areas.

Title: Linked Regicide

Date: Apr 27th, 2017

Media: Photoshop (Screened for Critique Presentation)

Written Statement: This piece depicts sequences of guillotines connected with veins and blood artilleries. The connections between guillotines signifies the continuity and repetition of regicides. For example, during the French Revolution, Louis XVI faced regicide by the parties and people believed that peace had come. However, the Terror by Robespierre had occurred, and many people were murdered during this event. Eventually, Robespierre was killed by the guillotine due to his genocide. The image above is a depiction of series of regicides in a particular era.

Title: Leaving Home Act 4

Date: May 11th, 2017

Media: Black Permanent Marker on 36 in x 54 in Rolling Paper

Written Statement: Leaving Home Act 1 to Act 4 illustrates the emotions we feel when one leaves a home or a place where one made a lot of friends and memorable experiences. The four pictures connect together to become a giant cartoon strip, and the story is about the emotions felt by the protagonist when leaving an island where he lived for a long time. This also reflects my upcoming participation in the Korean army, which made me to leave school for two years. For a year, I have made great experiences and memories that I would never forget, and I had the feels when the end of year is approaching. The comic strip above definitely illustrates such emotion, and it is a great piece for me to end the freshmen year.
